Botox® is used to reduce or even prevent wrinkles in the face. It is most commonly placed into the muscles between the eyebrows (glabella) to prevent scowling, into the forehead to diminish forehead wrinkles and around the eyes to reduce crows feet. It may also be injected into various other facial areas such as the upper lip to reduce the formation of upper lip wrinkles. A small brow elevation may also be obtained with proper treatment.
Botox® has been used safely and successfully for years and the results generally last three to four months. Side effects are typically limited and include a slight risk of bruising. Misplacement of the product may lead to an eyelid droop or laxity of the eyelid and headaches have been reported.
Botox® may also be used for blepharospasm, or eyelid twitching. Other indications include the treatment for excess armpit or palm sweating.
