Chin and Cheek Implants

Chin implants are placed on the front , mid jawbone to enhance the shape and fullness of the jaw. A chin implant is often placed to make the jaw seem more forward or “strong”.

Cheek implants are placed to enhance the fullness of the cheek structure and define the facial structure.  Cheek implants may include cheek implants, submalar implants or cheek-submalar implants.  These different implants vary on the position placed on the cheek and are chosen depending on the areas which require increased fullness or enhancement.

Who would benefit from chin or cheek implant surgery?

A man or woman who notes less definition or projection of facial structures is an ideal candidate. Chin implants allow the chin to extend outward more. The jaw line looks more extended and is placed in individuals who desire further extension of their jaw. Cheek implants benefit individuals who have flat cheeks or a hollow contour under their cheek bone.

Who is an ideal candidate for chin and cheek implant surgery?

A man or woman who desires moderate improvement in facial contouring of the jaw or cheek areas. They should be of good overall health and have ideal expectations.

What qualifications should my surgeon have?

A surgeon should be familiar with the bony contours  of the jaw and cheeks and understand the ideal projections and proportions of the face.  Dr. Andryk is a board certified facial plastic surgeon who is familiar with the ideal facial features and has extensive experience with facial implants.

What are new techniques in chin and cheek implant surgery?

The techniques for implantations are relatively consistent.  Changes in the materials used for implants area also fairly stable, but some relatively new materials have become available in the past few years.

What can I expect during my consultation for chin or cheek implant surgery?

An individual should understand why and implant may be helpful to enhance their facial structure.  Dr. Andryk will show her patients a variety of implants so that they can feel e material and see the appearance of the structure and determine what size implant will be helpful.  Dr. Andryk will also provide imaging so a patient may visualize what their postoperative appearance will be.

What are some of the surgical facts I need to know?

  • Have hidden incisions for placement
  • Require a wrap or bolster to support the implant overnight
  • Undergo IV sedation
  • Are performed as an outpatient procedure
What are some of the postoperative concerns I might have?

A majority of patients undergoing facial implants:

  • Have a sensation of bruising or soreness afterwards
  • Notice their new contour rapidly after surgery
  • Have dissolvable sutures placed
What are the risks of chin or cheek implant surgery?

The risks include temporary or permanent numbness, implant malposition, implant mobility, replacement of a new sized implant, infection, excessive bruising or scarring.

Does insurance cover the cost of chin or cheek implant surgery?

Generally insurance does not cover the cost of chin or cheek implants.
