“I help patients learn enough about their medical problems to make prudent decisions.”
A Milwaukee native, I received my undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Wisconsin Madison. I completed my residency in orthopaedic surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin, where I also taught trauma orthopaedics for one year. I then went to Boston for one year of specialty training at the Harvard Orthopedic Department, studying bone and joint reconstruction in cancer patients. I am board certified in orthopaedic surgery.
All problems related to knee and hip reconstructive surgery interest me, including partial versus total replacements, joint resurfacing, use of computers/robots, alternative bearing materials, minimally invasive surgery, tissue transplantation and prevention of post-operative pain. I use an evidence-based approach to select what I believe are the best techniques and materials available before making recommendations to my patients.
I believe constant study and practice are necessary to maintain competence. Therefore, I read extensively, attend national meetings and maintain up-to-date certification by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
When not working or studying, I enjoy being outdoors, hiking, bicycling and traveling, or cooking a family dinner with my wife and two daughters.
